Not sure what all this is about? To simplify, Subeta and Neopets are what's called virtual pet sites--online communities where you can adopt, name and care for a virtual pet! You can battle with your pet, give it a personality and interact with it in many other ways.
Most pet sites also have a strong community, where you can make close friends and connect with many different people. They also feature games, quests and more!
Neopets is widely regarded as the first and most popular pet site, but it lacks many of the features of other, newer sites.
In 2005, Neopets was sold to Viacom. Since then, Neopets has gone through a layout change as well as having multiple advertisements placed around the site. The biggest draw to the site, the pets, were all redrawn so that they could be added to the dress-up system, and no longer have the special appeal they used to.
Neopets was a game created by Adam & Donna for college students. Now, if you so much as say the word gay you get permanently banned from the site. If you are tired of all of this, maybe you'll be interested in another option!
You may have heard of Subeta. You might have heard that it has virtual pets, like so many other pet sites--that it has human avatars you can dress up, like Gaia Online--what makes it so special?
Subeta isn't just a pet site or an avatar site--it's more than that. It's an online community with active members, beautiful art and more rampant creativity than you can shake a stick at.
Subeta isn't quite as big as some of those other sites, but for what it lacks in sheer size it makes up for in things like not being covered in ads, supporting real freedom of speech and accessibility.
This doesn't even begin to sum up what Subeta is, but if you're still not convinced, by all means read on! We're going to honestly and fairly compare the heavy-hitter of pet sites, Neopets, with Subeta, and from there--the call is yours!
The bread and butter of any virtual pet site is, naturally, the pets. What are the differences between Neopets and Subeta (aside from the name!) in this regard? More than a few--beautiful, unique colors, how many pets you can own, and the ways in which you can interact with them.
Neopets allows you to have multiple accounts--up to five accounts at once--each with a limit of four pets each for a total of twenty pets across all of your accounts!
Don't worry if you fill up all your slots--you can disown a pet at the pound for a new one, if you really want to.
Subeta only allows you to have one account, but allows five pets for regular users, ten for Gold Account members, and has special items that let you obtain up to twenty pet slots!
(With the mysterious Loyalty Boxes, which are given to a user every year after they've been a part of the site for two years, you can obtain even more than that!)
Neopets has over 40 different pet paintbrushes--coloring your pet with one of these rare and valuable items will let it shine and show off, if you can get your hands on one! A few will even change your pet's form, adding wings or accessories!

Subeta has 27 different Potions that can change your pet's color, fourteen of which have beautiful and detailed redrawn art like Glade, Graveyard and Reborn. They restock in the Magic Box and Token shop, anyone with a bit of determination can get one!

Still with us? Fantastic.
While the pet part of "pet site" is still extremely important, these days people visit them for a lot more than just that: they come for the social aspect, the fun of working on their accounts and, in a lot of cases, the wardrobe.
Neopets revamped almost all of their pets to go along with their new wardrobe system, letting their users dress their pets up with over 6,000 clothes, accessories and backgrounds!
Many are species-exclusive, with only one kind of Neopet able to wear them! You can get dozens of cool items from the shops, and get even cooler exclusive ones only available in the NC Mall for limited amounts of time!
Subeta has a sprawling Human Avatar system, with access to a wardrobe of over 14,000 layerable clothes, a custom tattoo parlor, and a unique hair highlighting system!

Communicate!

Due to the nature and primary audience of Neopets, though, they are somewhat limited to ensure it is safe and friendly for everyone; Neopets is aimed at younger kids, and as a result the site and boards are heavily censored and moderated. Discussion of controversial subjects is banned, and dozens of words (many of which come off as arbitrary) are blocked by their filter.

A entire subforum exists dedicated to nothing but mature debate (and flaming is carefully watched for)! Most forumgoers are between 16 and 25, discussion of real-world events also have their own spaces for talk, and while there is a bad word filter, it can be turned on or off!
Customize!
... and the fanbase has hundreds of premade layouts available to edit the templates! They also have several variations on their default layout, with secret unlockable themes to be had.
Unfortunately, Neopets' HTML filter (to prevent cookie grabbing and other things against their rules) severely limits the ways in which you can customize.
Dozens of artists and coders are available for hire to craft your perfect, custom profile, including pet image overlays that let you make your pet look as only you could imagine--or open a shop and sell your own!
Subeta also supports customCSS, which lets you alter the site's appearance any way you could possibly want!
Accomplish!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There's lots more that might not be apparent at first blush ... important things, like how rule-breaking is handled, the state of the site's economy, and other things all and sundry. We're just about done!

Scamming?!
And that's our tour! Thanks for staying with us the whole way. It's easy to get lost in the wide world of virtual pet sites, so we hope this page has been useful to you!
While a fast-paced community, extremely rare pets and a guarded stomping ground is great for some, it's not for everyone. For what it is, Neopets is good--it's a safe, fun environment for younger children to adopt friendly, colorful pets and play games. Nothing wrong with that! But many players lament what it's become, asking for something more suited to their age group, and there is where Subeta answers.
The aim of this page was to alert you to another option and give a brief introduction to the site, but not everything could be covered through the course of one page. With that in mind, we hope you'll consider signing up for Subeta and seeing what else it has to offer!
